York House Hotel - A Georgian-style hotel with original features, Italian dining, and event facilities

Retaining many original 18th-century Georgian features, including decorative mahogany door frames and fireplaces, York House Hotel offers 20 contemporary en-suite rooms with flat-screen TVs and free WiFi. The property features Sloanes Restaurant, serving authentic Italian cuisine with garden views and al fresco dining, alongside a complimentary English breakfast served Monday to Friday. Located behind Wakefield's Theatre Royal on Drury Lane, the hotel provides easy access to Wakefield Westgate station (5-minute walk) and landmarks like Wakefield Cathedral (0.5 km) and Yorkshire Sculpture Park (11 km). Event spaces include a 100-seater restaurant and a large function room for weddings or meetings, with 12 accessible rooms available.

Pros

Retains original Georgian architectural features including decorative fireplaces and mahogany door frames.

Sloanes Restaurant serves authentic Italian cuisine with garden views and al fresco dining.

Free parking and proximity to Wakefield Westgate station (5-minute walk).

Offers accessible rooms with disabled bathroom facilities and emergency pull cords.

Large function room available for events accommodating up to 120 guests.

Cons

Some rooms lack desks unless specifically requested during booking.

No spa or pool facilities on-site.

“In my opinion, this is a smart choice, particularly given its location mere steps from both the train station and the city center. The recently updated rooms offer both space and comfort, a welcome surprise. I think it's a solid value, especially with the added perk of onsite parking.”
